Moving! Ugh!

Happy New Year!

Mine is starting with a move and I'm feeling overwhelmed. Actually, that's an understatement. Boxes being packed, details to take care of, money to scrape up to pay for things I hadn't even thought about before deciding to move. Does it ever end? Say yes, please! :D

The biggest annoyance? Limited internet access. I am having serious withdrawals. I had no idea how much time I spent on the internet doing research for books, writing on message boards and, let's be honest, looking at Pinterest photos. What did we ever do without unlimited access to the world via all our electronics?

Sorry I've been so sporadic lately. When I get settled, you can be sure writing will be at the top of my list. I'm almost finished with a first draft of Runway Romance, Book one of the Love in the Air Trilogy. I'm beyond excited for this release!! Then, it will be a trip back to write Sequel two of the Embracing Love Trilogy, When Love's Gone Country. I've been having some wonderful dreams about story lines, so be sure and stay tuned!

Giving Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving!

How did Thanksgiving sneak up on us so quickly? It feels early this year, even though I'm sure it's coming at the same time as last year. Life just seems to be so filled up these days.

Holidays used to seem very far away from each other when I was a kid. Now, I can barely keep up! Halloween turns to Thanksgiving to Christmas, all in the blink of an eye.

When I was young, Thanksgiving meant family members gathering around the table to eat turkey and mashed potatoes. Olives held center stage for me. On my fingers, of course! Ten would be slipped over my fingertips and then eaten one by one with great zest! :) Later, the olives would be eaten with a fork or, when no one was looking, my fingers.

Other dishes graced our table and became family favorites: my niece's sweet potatoes, my mom's orange Jell-o salad thing (you know, the one that has cottage cheese in it -- makes me gag every time, but I try it every year in hope that this might be the year I fall in love with it).

The last few years have been very different. After my father's stroke in 2006 and my mother's balance issues, they now live in separate places (Dad in an adult family home and Mom in a long-term care facility). It's a challenge to get the family together. Especially after my sister died in 2009. Things haven't really felt "right" since then.

It's been my personal tradition for well over ten years now to spend Thanksgiving weekend writing Christmas cards. I start playing Christmas music the week of Thanksgiving to get in the mood. I ignore Black Friday in favor of sappy Hallmark Channel Christmas movies, a warm blanket, and a stack of Christmas cards, address lists, stamps and red and green felt tip markers.

Once the cards are done, they will sit on the counter until December 1st (no premature mailing, the postmark must say December 1!). I love getting the cards done early as I know my loved ones will just be starting to think about Christmas. What a great way to begin the Season of Love!

This Thanksgiving, I wish you a quiet moment to drink in the joy of all the reasons you have to be thankful. The simple things, such as breathing, as well as the more elaborate things, reconciliation with loved ones, forgiveness, humor and passion.

Book Signing at Holiday Festival Bazaar - November 10th

I'll be signing books at a Holiday Festival Bazaar on Saturday, November 10th, from 10am to 4pm at Marysville United Methodist Church (5600 64th St. NE, Marysville, WA 98270). I'll have paperback books available for purchase, as well.

The event will be filled with vendors of every kind, so stop by for a few minutes or a few hours!

The Holiday Festival Bazaar is sponsored by the KLOZ 4 KIDZ program at Marysville United Methodist Church. A wonderful resource for local children to receive a pair of shoes, jacket and everything in between.

I'm really excited to be part of the Festival and hope to see you there!

Jenny falls for a man who almost runs her down on the tarmac as he delivers luggage to an airplane holding cargo. Kisses on the runway ensue as their romance blossoms.

LOVE ON THE FLY
Patricia meets a passenger on a flight to the Lone Star state. They find a long distance romance difficult to manage.

PASSION AT 30,000 FEET
Kate has a thing for pilots -- all of them. She hops into bed with each one she works with, until the day she finds one man who satisfies all her needs.

Makes me want to head to the airport and take a trip on the wings of love!

"Santa hates Seattle," a television news reporter declares after airing an interview with an inebriated gentleman who stumbled from Polanzky's Pub, slipped on an icy patch of snow and told reporters Santa Claus hit him with his sleigh. Eight-year-old Samantha Kinsey can't believe her ears. Her mother reassures her that Santa could never hate Seattle, but Sam is not convinced. She decides to send Santa an e-mail and make him a gift to show him how much she loves him. When Christmas rolls around the following year, Sam asks for an intangible gift. A wish even Santa will have difficulty granting.

This short story is approximately 15,000 words.

Now I'm in the Christmas mood. Is it too early to put up Christmas tree lights? Maybe just a bit. Then again, aren't we supposed to keep the Christmas Spirit in our heart all year long? I wonder where those lights are...
